Making digital technology greener at the heart of the VertIt project

The digital sector's considerable impact on the environment is now widely recognised, and it is crucial that society as a whole is made aware of the problem so that effective measures can be taken.

At present, 4% of greenhouse gas emissions are generated by the digital sector, which is more than the aviation sector!

The VerIt project proposes a series of training and awareness-raising initiatives for the general public, and was submitted in response to the call for expressions of interest in “Skills and Professions of the Future” as part of the France 2030 investment plan. It is based on an upstream diagnosis of the need for new skills in making the digital sector more environmentally friendly. VerIt is to receive funding of €3.3 million over 5 years, and will be implemented by a consortium made up of the Campus des Métiers et des Qualifications du Numérique Drôme-Ardèche, and various components of the UGA and Grenoble INP*.
The initiatives, developed in consultation with social and economic players, take a number of forms: initial training courses from primary school to doctorate level (raising awareness among young people, cross-disciplinary teaching at different levels, etc.), lifelong learning and continuing education, pedagogical and communication innovations, and awareness-raising events for the general public (conferences, repair workshops, etc.).

Grenoble INP – UGA involved in 8 winning projects
Launched in December 2021, the call for expressions of interest in Skills and Professions of the Future aims to “accelerate the adaptation of training in the needs and skills of new sectors and professions of the future”.
Its goal is to identify training projects that are in line with the national strategic priorities of France 2030 (green hydrogen and renewable energies, decarbonisation of industry, food and agriculture, health, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, etc.).
Two types of project can be proposed in this context: training schemes and diagnosis of training needs.
In addition to the VertIt project, Grenoble INP - UGA is leading two other projects in the call for expressions of interest in Skills and Professions of the Future, on artificial intelligence and hydrogen. It is also a partner in five other projects.
