Grenoble INP - UGA and its engineering and management schools are regularly ranked among the top engineering and management grandes écoles in France and worldwide.


International rankings

Shanghai Global Ranking 2024

Published since 2003 by Jiao Tong University, the Shanghai ranking lists each year the best universities in the world based on six criteria, including the number of publications in the two scientific journals Nature and Science, the number of citations of these articles in indexed journals, and the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals awarded to the university’s students and staff.

Université Grenoble Alpes maintains its position in the top 150 of the 2024 Shanghai ranking of the world’s best universities. Nationally, UGA also keeps its spot as the 5th French university and 1st university outside the Paris region, alongside the universities of Aix-Marseille and Strasbourg, behind the four Paris-area institutions: Université Paris Saclay, PSL, Sorbonne Université, and Université Paris Cité.

Shanghaï ranking by subjects 2024

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects evaluates over 4,000 universities across 55 disciplines (up from 54 in 2022), grouped into 5 broad categories: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences.

UGA ranks in the global top 50 in four subjects:

  • 11th in Remote Sensing,
  • 16th in Earth Sciences,
  • 39th in Textile Science and Engineering,
  • 40th in Clinical Medicine.

Across the 55 evaluated disciplines, UGA appears 33 times, including 4 times in the top 50 and 10 times in the top 100.

Grenoble INP - UGA is the top French engineering school.

With 11 entries in different thematic rankings (compared to 8 in 2024), Grenoble INP - UGA ranks first among the 16 French engineering schools listed, ahead of INSA Lyon (9) and Ponts ParisTech (8). Grenoble INP - UGA is the 20th French institution overall, and UGA is the 4th French university

Industrie & Technologies 2021

Industrie et Technologies has published its 2021 ranking of the best innovation-driven engineering schools, based on 2020 public data from the CTI (Engineering Titles Commission).

Three Grenoble INP - UGA schools are ranked in the top 12:

  • Grenoble INP - Phelma, UGA - 5th
  • Grenoble INP - Ense³, UGA - 6th
  • Grenoble INP - Ensimag, UGA - 12th
Other Grenoble INP - UGA schools also performed well:
  • Grenoble INP - Pagora, UGA makes its first appearance, ranked 38th after crossing the threshold of 100 graduates
  • Grenoble INP - Génie industriel, UGA and Polytech Grenoble - INP rank 42nd and 44th respectively
