Summer schools organized by the Chemistry Biology Health Graduate School (CBH Graduate School) of Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) are designed to provide cross-disciplinary trainings on current societal issues.

They are open to students within the CBH Graduate School scope (enrolled in Masters’ or PhDs in Chemistry, Biology, Environment and Health Engineering, Sciences and Techniques of physical and sports activities).

Each "Shape the future" summer school deals with a topical interdisciplinary theme corresponding to a scientific and societal issue. Activities are facilitated by scientific and industrial experts as well as experts in innovation management/economics/usage, etc., so that by the end of the week-long school, students can put forward proposals for research and development projects that are both innovative and sustainable in economic, ethical and environmental terms.

The 5-day courses are conducted in English, with presentations by scientific and industrial experts and thematic project workshops. During workshops, groups of students tackle an issue to develop an innovative proposal that then present to a committee. Visits to laboratories and companies are also scheduled.

This year the students will conduct an investigation with their project team and identify the risks linked to a real-life situation of contamination.
They will have lectures and workshops about the origin of contaminants, how to assess their toxic potential, how they can be detected, how the risks are evaluated by scientific committees of experts.

This year, we will fund 2-3 motivated Master’s or PhD students from Unite! partners can attend our Summer School. Funding covers registration fees and mobility-related costs (transport and accommodation).

  • Environmental epidemiology : Marion Ouidir (IAB, Environmental Epidemiology applied to Devlopment and respiratory Health team)
  • Human and environmental health risks associated with plastic pollution: Marie Carrière (SyMMES, Chemistry Interface Biology for environment Health and Toxicology team)
  • Health risks associated with environmental exposures Renaud Persoons (TIMC, Environment and Population Health Prevention)
  • Capture and transformation of toxic chemicals in nanoporous material: Eric Borguet (Temple University, Philadelphia)
  • Risk management in the industry (speaker to be confirmed)
  • Soil bioremediation (speaker to be confirmed)
  • Pollution and human behavior change (speaker to be confirmed)

Visits to laboratories and private companies

Language: The event will be held in English, and no technical knowledge is required. 
When: June 22 to 26, 2026.
