For the first time, the CSAW finals expanded to include students from across Europe and was hosted by Grenoble INP-Esisar, in Valence, France.
More than 400 elite students from high school through doctoral programs who had beaten over 12,000 participants from 98 countries
in preliminary rounds gathered at four of the regional hubs (USA, Abu Dhabi, India and France) November 9-11, 2017 and in the last hub (Israel) November 12-13.
CSAW was founded in 2003 not simply to engage and educate students but to introduce them to leading professionals and peers who would be able to form important networks when they would become professionals and academics themselves. The 2017 CSAW Europe was no exception, besides the competitions, including the four student challenges, Grenoble INP-Esisar hosted an industry career fair, speeches, and networking events.
The European finals comprised 4 hotly contested competitions among 80 students and 35 teams, supported by over 20 judges from higher education and industry. Nearly 30 corporate employers from Schneider Electric, Ingenico, Serma Safety and Security, Thales, IP Garde and Ponant Technologies took part in the even, offering internships and career positions to CSAW finalists and other cybersecurity students from Auvergne-Rhone Alpes area.
“The CSAW games have proved an outstanding tool to engage and educate students,
and we are proud that this year we could reach students on three continents through our four university partners. Like us, they recognize that cybersecurity is borderless – and growing in opportunities for our students,
with an anticipated shortfall of 1.8 million jobs worldwide by 2022,” said NYU Tandon Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Ramesh Karri, the faculty lead for NYU CSAW.
"Thanks to Grenoble INP Esisar students and staff' involvement, and support from NYU, partner companies, local authorities and of course challengers, judges, and speakers, this 2017 edition of CSAW Europe was a success!" testify Laurent Pion and David Hély, co-organizers of this edition.> Click here to see international winners and the complete summary of the event
