On March 25, 2017, Grenoble Institute of Technology’s athlete student Cléa Martinez (Ensimag School) became speed skiing world champion. Her path as engineer and high level athlete is supported by Grenoble Institute of Technology Foundation.

Cléa started alpine skiing at an early age, and discovered speed skiing at 7. She was only 8 when she started participating in her French youth championship. She joined the world cup competition at 15, and quickly joined French skiing team.

Supported by Grenoble Institute of Technology Foundation, Cléa can combine her engineering studies at Grenoble INP Ensimag school and her passion for speed skiing.

Follow engineering studies while practising for a high-level sport isn’t always easy, I even had to take a break from skiing during my two years of preparatory class. Starting skiing again and come back to the level I used to have and while starting my engineering school has been a real challenge.

Grenoble Institute of Technology Foundation supports high-level athletes in all projects, professional as well as personal. It allows me to enter my season more peacefully and to promote my sport, little known and shown in the media, and in which it is hard to find a spot.

I am particularly greatful to the Foundation for its material support, but also and more importantly for its human aspect!” highlights Cléa
