Cluster IEM Meeting on the Industry 4.0

Grenoble INP – Génie industriel (Industrial Engineering and Management) school, Grenoble INP GI Junior Enterprise and G-SCOP hosted last week in Grenoble a special event within the frame of the CLUSTER IEM meeting.
    • to
During 4 days, Cluster IEM members and guest attendees (industrials, students and researchers) have discussed Industrial Engineering of the future, its challenges and new trends to be taken in consideration in the educational curriculum of industrial engineers.

Amongst participants, we can mention ST Microelectronics, Schndeider Electric, Renault, along with 7 European universities (Lappeenranta University of Technology, Linkoping University, Politechnico di Torino, TU Darmstadt…).

The “Industry of the Future” concept will deeply transform the industrial companies, both in their internal organization and product architectures but also in customers and suppliers’ relationships. This transformation will need new competencies and knowledge for future industrial engineers.

The meeting aims were to:
  • Elaborate a CLUSTER IEM strategic response to the development of the “Industry of the future (or “industry 4.0") in our countries. Take a step back to jointly define the concept, its impact on our students future jobs and expected skills, and, as a consequence, on our Industrial Engineering and Management teaching curriculum. Focus on explicit consequences for our network.

  • Bring out partners’ specificities and highlights related to the concept that may attract our international students. The idea here is to define an attractive difference for each partner and design 30 ECTS courses packages around this difference.

  • Identify 2 or 3 projects of shared courses between some of our institutions. The idea here is to share resources within our network.

  • Bring out common projects such as special event e.g. summer (winter) school on IEM for the industry of the future, involving partners, students and companies.

Let’s see where those shared discussions and reflexions lead our curriculums to fit the industry of the future's need!
