Micro & nanotechnologies
Published: July 11, 2005
Micro and nanotechnologies are a major research focus in Grenoble. Development has been rapid since Minatec was established, co-founded by Grenoble Institute of Technology and the CEA.
Innovation cluster closely linked with MINATEC
The ambition for Minatec, founded by
CEA-LETI and Grenoble Institute of Technology, is to become Europe's leading innovation cluster in the field of micro and nanotechnologies. This region is uncommonly rich in scientific, technological and industrial resources, focused on achieving this ambitious objective :
- High-performance research platforms
- CEA-LETI's silicon platform
- Nanocharacterization center
- Flexible technology line (CEA-DRFMC, Federation of micro and nanotechnologies)
- A dedicated industrialization space: 10,000 m2 of workspace and clean rooms.
Rhone Alpes region Micro and Nanotechnology Federation (FMNT)
The FMNT is the unifying body for all Micro and Nanotechnology teams in Rhone Alpes region, a total of 6 laboratories, of which 4 are in Grenoble (LTM, IMEP, LMGP, et SPINTEC) and 2 in Lyon. The FMNT works with CEA_LETI and the Alliance à Crolles (ST Microelectronics, Philips, Freescale), but also with Grenoble's Nanosciences community (IdNano federation and condensed matter physics institute).
More than 135 researchers and research fellows, 60 engineers and technicians and 200 graduates and postdocs were members of the federation by the end of 2004.
Micro and Nanotechnology covers:
- Microphotonics and nanophotonics
- Spintronics
- Microsystems
- Biotechnologies
- End-use technologies
- Innovative characterization techniques
