Information and Communication
Published: July 11, 2005
We live in an age of information. The Information and Communication cluster, of which Grenoble Institute of Technology is a part, is one of the largest research clusters in Grenoble.
Simulation and modeling at the forefront
Society is generating ever larger demands for information and communication services, and research is required to meet this demand. Our research focuses on modeling and simulation methodologies and hardware and software solutions for information handling and processing. This work requires both basic and applied research in IT, applied mathematics, signaling and systems. Grenoble Institute of Technology is developing a research, innovation and promotion network with a variety of local partners (CNRS, INRIA, INSERM, UJF, UPMF and US and Grenoble University Hospital).
Life sciences and virtual realityThe Information and Communication cluster focuses its research on various applications
Some research projects are aiming to create and improve investigatory analysis and modeling tools and methods for natural phenomena. This research covers
surgetics (a new research area focusing on computerized and robot-aided medical interventions), home-based medical monitoring systems, medical imaging, biocomputing, biostatistics, mathematical models and simulation, mechanical properties of organs and tissues.
Other projects focus on access to and use of electronic content, as well as multimedia processing and art, user interfaces and communication, multimedia and hypermedia systems, models of consciousness, IT-based environments for human learning, multisensory interaction and learning techniques.
Research in this area focuses on advanced signaling methods, communication protocols for future networks, network design and control, embedded software and systems, computing grids and clusters and analysis, calculation, programming, design and interface models.
- Simulation and virtual reality
Scientists are working on tools to model and simulate a physical world, designing and visualizing virtual worlds, merging the virtual with the real, using multisensory interaction and augmented reality.
