Personnal view (GEG) : “GreenLys is our anticipation lab”

Nicolas Fléchon, deputy director of networks and responsible for SMART ENERGY projects for Gaz et Electricité de Grenoble (GEG): GreenLys is our anticipation lab.

« GEG is a local energy distribution company that delivers and sells gas and electricity in the Grenoble region and other municipalities in Isère. It also produces renewable energies.

With energy issues now becoming more and more decentralised, GEG has to anticipate the changes that lie ahead in the area. Our commitment to the GreenLys project is a way for us to anticipate the future and to prepare for change. As we do not have an in-house R&D organisation on which to base our research, we have chosen to take part in joint projects, where the engineering skills are provided by our partners, including Grenoble INP, in exchange for the provision of a unique testing ground. Through us, our partners have access to real customers and real electrical facilities for their work. In return, we benefit from feedback that is extremely valuable in terms of the lessons we can learn for adapting our services to changes in the market.

For example, we are going to be able to test what is called curtailment'. Some customers have let us connect a box' to a communicating (or smart) meter that can take over the management of their heating. This can, if necessary, temporarily cut off heating, which - when extrapolated to the number of customers who have signed up to the scheme - will help to secure the supply and limit the need to start up production that is costly and pollutes the environment. GreenLys is an open and innovative form of cooperation in the service of energy efficiency. »
