Industrial chair of excellence in smart grids

In order to meet the rapid technological changes related to the development of smart grids, an industrial chair of excellence has been created as part of Grenoble INP's Partnership Foundation in association with ERDF.

The chair will focus on the study of the implementation of new grid architectures, the observation and management of grids, information and telecommunication networks (size, nature, protocols and interfaces), cyber security, new economic and regulatory models, and new uses.

The new chair will help ERDF reach a critical mass quickly in terms of research and deploying technology over a sufficiently long period of time. It means that the company will be at the forefront of both industrial and scientific innovation in a strategic sector. It will also enable ERDF to develop and consolidate the skills required for meeting the challenges of electricity distribution.

For Grenoble INP, the partnership means that it will be able to reinforce and boost its expertise in a strategic sector in France and across the world. The skills that will be developed will also benefit student engineers and students on the master's and doctorate courses and will prepare them for future areas of the energy industry. One of the great strengths of the chair of excellence is that it will be possible to support scientific programs and theoretical teaching through large-scale practical work, thanks in particular to the use of effective platforms such as PREDIS, says Valérie Bonnardel, director of the Foundation. The chair is held by Nouredine Hadjsaid, a world expert in the field of smart grids and the only French researcher with a worldwide reputation in the area.
