Grenoble Ranks Best French City for Students

Once again, Grenoble was ranked as the best French city for university studies ahead of Rennes and Toulouse (the last time was in 2013). As explained by the magazine L’Etudiant when the ranking was published on September 7th: “The capital of the Dauphiné region has everything needed to attract students. It’s not surprising the city has been in the top three of our ranking for the past ten years!”

Grenoble: a city full of advantages

The city unites many strong points including the number of exchange students and graduate students, the region’s dynamic job market, numerous local initiatives and a variety of public transportation. The capital of the Alps received a perfect score of 10 for its number of graduate students. As a result, L’Etudiant stated: “Research is part of the city’s DNA. The excellence of its technical fields provides students with numerous prospects.”

A city of the future

Last March, the Financial Times also awarded Grenoble a third place in its ranking of European Cities and Regions of the Future (2016-2017). The city was recognized for its strategy to develop the region’s attractiveness for foreign investors. Grenoble generates the second most patents in France after Paris and the city also attracts the most foreign investment projects for R&D and design. These two factors allowed the city to outrank other French cities.

A European student metropolis

With 60,000 students, including 7,200 exchange students, Grenoble’s vibrant ecosystem makes it a major destination for European students. Grenoble is France’s second university and science city after Paris.
