Grenoble Institute of Technology's environmental research is based on engineering science at work in experiments and modeling, focusing on natural environments (pollution management and treatment, natural hazards and vulnerability, impacts of climate change, etc.) and on industrial environmental issues (clean processes, sustainability and recycling, renewable energies, etc.).

The environmental research carried out at Grenoble Institute of Technology mainly focuses on environmental preservation and the protection of people and property, in the context of sustainable development.

The institute draws on its skills in:
  • Fluid mechanics, geomechanics, hydrology, materials and structural mechanics, climatology, hydrometeorology, oceanography
  • Modeling, digital simulation, statistical analysis and data processing
  • Environmental sensors, instruments and measurements
Key issues
  • Impact of climate change on water systems
  • Air, water and soil pollution and its treatment, ecosystem dynamics
  • Gravitational movements, river and coastal transport of solid and sediments
  • Natural, technological and industrial hazards and vulnerability
  • Transport and the environment
  • Renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • Clean and safe processes, bioprocesses
  • Microfluids
  • Product sustainability and recycling
