Entry requirements

For all admission applications, particular notice is taken of the availability of funding for the duration of the thesis.  In addition:

  • For holders of a Master Recherche, a grade of Assez-Bien is a minimum requirement.  However, if the grade of Assez-Bien was obtained through a high grade from a placement, this admission may be conditional
  • For holders of a 2nd Cycle Master qualification, admission to the thesis program is decided by the Ecole Doctorale after external examination of the End of Studies Project
  • For holders of a master's degree or equivalent qualification obtained abroad, admission is decided by the Collège Doctoral committee after external examination for doctoral students applying to Grenoble Institute of Technology (Grenoble INP) or by the Commission de Validation des Acquis Académiques for doctoral students applying to Université Joseph Fourier.
In certain cases, admission to the thesis program may be conditional.  Admission to the 2nd year of the thesis program is only given if the doctoral student can satisfy certain conditions: passing a certain number of exams and/or vivas at the end of the 1st year.

  • Course duration : 3 years

Program

The Ecole Doctorale requires that students follow complementary courses of at least 120 hours during the preparation of a thesis, divided in the following manner:

- 40 hours minimum corresponding to specialist scientific training.  This training is defined by the student and his or her supervisor.  Each year, the Ecole Doctorale offers a body of scientific training.  Other training can also be offered by partners associated with the thesis in order to fulfill the individual requirements of each student.
At least 8 hours of training must be chosen from outwith the theme of the thesis.  This can take a variety of forms: Ecoles Thématiques (conferences), Journée des Doctorants (special doctoral student seminar day) organized by the Ecole Doctorale, bibliographic surveys, etc.

- 40 hours minimum corresponding to multidisciplinary training, which is not necessarily scientific (training managed by the Collèges Doctoraux of Université Joseph Fourier and Grenoble Institute of Technology).

- 40 hours of career development training (managed by the Collèges Doctoraux).
