The Grenoble Ecole Doctorale for Physics plays host to around 260 doctoral students over more than 20 research laboratories.  The range of themes covered is extensive, especially with the major fields which form the strength of the scientific community in Grenoble, as can be seen in the list of thesis specialties:

Career opportunities
According to recent surveys (with a response rate of 85%) 4 years after attaining their doctorate 75% of doctors are in stable employment (53% in public research and 22% in the private sector).  Around 25% are performing post doctoral studies.
